About Calum

I’m a freelance writer with 20 years experience writing for a business audience. For 12 years (until October 2005), I worked for Hays, the specialist recruitment and HR services company, including a spell of three years as the content manager for hays.com, writing features and advice articles while editing the work of a team of eight writers. I’ve also edited a twice-yearly careers magazine, Careers Agenda, published by Hays, writing articles as well as sub-editing, briefing designers and buying print. Before Hays, I worked for six years in the marketing department at Brook Street, a recruitment agency specialising in office and light industrial staff. Read my cv.

I’ve had articles published in specialist finance, business and human resources titles, as well as on websites and in the journals of professional membership bodies. I’ve ghostwritten editorials and opinion pieces on behalf of company directors and written copy for scores of recruitment marketing campaigns, on and offline. I've researched and written salary surveys, recruitment and retention overviews for various sectors, guides and manuals for employers and jobseekers, company performance reviews for annual reports and press releases.

The main focus of my freelance writing is HR – from the perspectives of everyone from directors, line managers and trainers through to employees, jobseekers, home-workers and entrepreneurs, as well as professional bodies and their memberships.
